Jone Jankoski's competition entry “ADRIATIC“ for the Bentley and Dezeen "Create Something Powerful” Competition was selected for exhibition at the 22nd Biennial of Macedonian Contemporary Architecture - BIMAS 2025.
The exhibition will take place from October 6 to 21 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje.
Early Academic Career & Architectural Studies
Born in Struga, North Macedonia, on September 18, 1981, he began his architectural studies at the Faculty of Architecture, University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius" in Skopje, after graduating from USO "Niko Nestor" High School of Architecture. During his studies, he collaborated with prominent professors and architects, and in 2011, he earned his professional degree in architecture (Dipl.-Ing. Arch.) with a special mention, under the mentorship of Prof. PhD Mitko Hadzi Pulja.
From 2008 to 2013, encompassing his architectural studies and post-graduation period, he was a part of the pedagogical teaching team at the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje. In this role, he contributed to the conceptualization and operation of serial methodical units within the "Learning Architecture" project for first-year students, led by Professors PhD Minas Bakalchev and PhD Mitko Hadzi-Pulja.
Exhibitions, Collaborations and International Presence
He participated in significant international architectural events, representing Macedonia on multiple occasions.
In 2010, he was part of the national team at the Venice Biennale of Architecture with the theme “Learning Architecture.” In 2012, as a member of the Architecture Faculty pedagogical teaching team, he represented the Republic of Macedonia at the First Biennale of Architecture in Thessaloniki with the project “B2 City”.
In the same year, he participated for a second time at the Venice Biennale of Architecture with the group “METAMAK Collective,” presenting the theme “Architecture in the mirror: Sublime and Everyday”.
Apprenticeship with Professor Boris Chipan
From 2008 to 2012, during his academic studies, he began his professional architectural career as an apprentice to the distinguished Architect and Professor Boris Chipan. This apprenticeship continued until Professor Chipan pass away in 2012 at the age of 94.
Together, they developed a series of studies and projects for the city of Ohrid, including a tower bell for the Orthodox Cathedral Church St. Sophia of the Ohrid Archbishopric, and an Archaeological and Research Center with a Museum and outdoor theater in Samuel’s Fortress, which were presented and exhibited in the opening event of Ohrid Summer Festival 2010.
Licensed Practice & International Experience
In the spring of 2013, he temporarily set aside his grief over his professor's death and his faculty responsibilities to collaborate with Professor Josep Lluis Mateo in Barcelona. During this period, he played a pivotal role in several projects and competitions, including housing developments in Marseille, Montpellier, and Beirut, as well as a significant development project in Nice.
Returning to Macedonia in 2014 after a brief period in Barcelona, he joined "Ivanov Engineering" as a Leading Architect. In this position, his work focused on executive projects nationwide, encompassing a range of building types, including industrial, urban, and residential developments. Key projects include the NEW TREND Distributive Center in Petrovec, the Vitalia Food Factory, and the Apple Land Industrial building in Resen.
His long-standing and significant collaboration with friend and architect Vangel Raftoski, from Struga, began in 2011 and has continued to evolve. A notable outcome of this partnership is the extensive development of a new sports complex in Skopje's Aerodrom district, featuring a multifunctional sports hall, an Aqua Park with retail and commercial facilities, and an open Olympic swimming pool.
On July 26, 2013, Jone Jankoski received authorization for architectural design from the Chamber of Authorized Architects and Engineers of the Republic of North Macedonia (KOAI), becoming a licensed architect and engineer in North Macedonia (License No. 1.1848).
2014 Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) / Construction Division
In 2014, he earned his Master's degree in Technical Science and Civil Engineering (MSCE) from the Faculty of Civil Engineering (Construction Division) at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. His Master's thesis, "Parametric tools for form finding structural optimization," was supervised by Prof. PhD. Grozde Aleksovski. This work, which focused on integrating parametric computing and engineering science, received a special mention.
2018 Master of Architecture (M.Arch)
He earned his Master of Architecture (M. Arch) degree in 2018 from the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje. Under the guidance of Prof. PhD. Minas Bakalchev, his thesis, "Architecture and Territory: Morphology of Collective Form," explored the intersection of architectural practice, applied art, and digital tools.
Transition to Technology & Leadership
In April 2015, Jone Jankoski joined Cylindo, a pioneering product visualization platform for e-commerce, seeking new challenges beyond prevailing market trends. His decade-long tenure at Cylindo showcases a remarkable journey of continuous innovation and transformative leadership in 3D content creation.
Progressing from foundational technical roles to R&D Team Lead after the merger and acquisition by Chaos in 2022, he consistently spearheaded initiatives to optimize processes, establish industry standards, and enhance platform productivity, processes, and workflows.
His career at Chaos stands as a testament to his ability to drive significant technological advancements and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement.
Jone Jankoski architectural practice has been continuous since his graduation in 2011. His work uniquely integrates hands-on architectural design with rigorous academic research and technological innovation.
Beyond his leadership in the corporate sector, Jone maintains an active architectural practice and a dedicated research agenda.
This transdisciplinary approach enables him to tackle every project as both a designer and a strategist, utilizing strong skills in team leadership, project management, and design process optimization. He leverages a full spectrum of tools, ranging from traditional methodologies to AI-driven solutions.
Jone Jankoski has contributed to numerous projects, research, lectures, debates, and exhibitions in both academic and practical realms. He excels in developing architectural concepts from idea to construction. Currently, he plays a key role at Cylindo, a leader in visualization solutions, while actively engaging in architectural projects and research driven by both practical and theoretical interests.
